We continued learning hockey skills this week.  Students practiced shooting and passing on Monday and Tuesday.  The cues to remember when shooting and passing are to: square up and point your belly button at your target, put the puck beside you, and point your follow through at your target.   The students also participated in some hockey stations where they practiced the skills we learned over the past two weeks.  Next week we will play some actual floor hockey games.
I hope everyone enjoyed their fall break!  Time has been speeding by this school year - as it always does when you are having fun!  It is hard to believe our fall break is behind us, and we have only 5 weeks till winter break. This week we continued learning some hockey skills.  Students practiced stickhandling (manipulating the puck or ball with the blade of the stick) in a variety of games and activities this week.  Ask your child about some of the different games we played including, Bubbles; Islands; and Flames, Jets and Oilers. Next week we will focus on shooting. Have a great weekend!
We started floor hockey skills this week.  Students learned how to properly grip the stick, and then we practiced stick-handling with different objects, and in different ways.  We will continue with floor hockey after our fall break. Have an excellent fall break!
Alien Inline ended this week.  What a great residency!  Many of our grade 3 and 4 students learned to skate this week.  The progress from the first session to the fourth sessions is quite amazing.  It would be interesting to see if these skills transfer to ice skating.   I want to say thank you to Parent Council for funding this residency.  This is my seventh year at MTS, and Parent Council has always supported the PE program.  The program would not be the same without the equipment and residencies they help support.
