Wow, September is over already! That went fast!  Our September at MTS has been jam packed with learning and physical activity. This past week, and next week, students in K-2 are participating in a dance residency presented by 3 Left Feet.  Each class is learning a unique and creative dance which will be showcased at the end of next week for parents.  Stay tuned for what time your son or daughter's showcase will be.   PE has had to be outside because the gymnasium is in use for the dance residency.  We are using the time outside to practice some classic recess games like 4-square and Hopscotch.  It is great to see the students trying these games during their recess times.   Students, staff and I donned our tutus this Tuesday.  We surpassed our fundraising goals for the Terry Fox run and like I promised, I wore a Tutu for a whole day.  I loved seeing other people join me, including Dr. Slater!  So thanks for the support MTS crew!...

We had another successful Terry Fox run on September 19!  I was so proud to see all the students trying their best to achieve their goals.  I didn't intend to run myself this year (bad joints...) but I ended up doing 6 laps! During one of the laps I measured the distance using an app on my phone, and it turns out the track was 400m long.  So any student who was able to complete five laps ended up running 2 kilometres!  We had some students complete ten laps for a whopping 4 kilometres!  Incredible!  All that in 22 minutes!  So obviously I am very proud of every students' hard work.   We have an exciting dance residency starting for our K-2 students next week.  Ms. Allara with 3 Left Feet will be coming in to teach our K-2 students a dance from September 26th-October 6th.  This residency is being funded by our parent council, for which I am very thankful.  Dance is such a great activity to develop physical literacy.  PE cla...

We spent this week preparing for the Terry Fox Run by playing lots of running games, and doing a variety of running activities.  We also spoke about how Terry was resilient.  He faced many hardships, but never gave up, and was stronger because of it.  I'm sure students will keep this in mind as they give it their all during the Run on Tuesday, September 19th (9am).   Students also set goals for how many laps they would like to run on September 19th.  They used the number of laps they ran during our shorter practice run as a gauge to figure out how many they should be able to run on the 19th. Have a great weekend! Mr. van Sluys
