We had an exciting week of PE here at MTS.  The Grade 3 and 4 students started their Alien Inline residency.  It is pretty cool to see students who have never skated before the residency, be able to stand up and do some laps by the end of the week.  I am able to witness hundreds of moments of resiliency every Alien Inline session when a student falls but gets back up and keeps skating.  That makes me proud!  Alien Inline's last session will be on Halloween.  Students will need to make sure that their costumes will not interfere with skating - they can also take them off for skating if they need to.        While Alien Inline was in the gymnasium, I was in the hallway teaching PE.  Students participated in a variety of exercise stations.  They included: squats, pushups, planks, balance board squats, skier jumps, donkey kicks, and mountain climbers among a few others.  We spoke about th...

We continued Lacrosse this week.  Students practiced scooping, individual stick-handling tricks, passing, and shooting.  We may play some games outside later this month if the weather cooperates. Starting Monday students in grade 3 and 4 will be participating in an inline skating residency.  Please bring in a CSA approved helmet during your skating days.  Students MUST wear all the pads provided by Alien Inline including wrist pads, elbow pads, and knee pads.  Students have asked if they could bring in their own gear, but we will be using Alien Inline's equipment because we know that all of it is CSA approved, and clean and non-marking on the gymnasium floor.   Please see the attached schedule to know which days your child is skating.

PE was back inside the gymnasium this week.  It was nice to be outside enjoying the mild fall we've been having for the past couple weeks, but its also nice to have the gymnasium back.  Although it won't be for long as we have an inline skating residency starting on October 23 for our grade 3 and 4 students.  The company in charge of the residency is Alien Inline, and they have been at MTS a number of times in the past decade - most recently 2 years ago.  Big thank you goes to Parent Council who is generously funding this residency!  Last time Alien Inline was in our school, I saw tremendous growth in students' skating ability between the first and last class.   This week students started a lacrosse unit at our school. The lacrosse sticks were purchased by parent council six years ago.  We've put them to good use since then.  It is really great to see how skilled our students are with the lacrosse sticks.  We practice skills with t...

I want to start by saying CONGRATULATIONS to the K-2 students.  They worked hard on their dances, and I heard their performance was a hit!  I'm proud of them all.  Thank you to Allara from 3 Left Feet for spending the last two weeks at our school teaching students the art of dance.  And also thank you to Parent Council for funding this spectacular residency.   Regular PE was held outside this week.  We played a variety of games to keep the kids warm on those chilly days.  Thank you to all the students who dressed for the weather, and to everybody who had a positive attitude about having to be outside for PE these past two weeks.
