This week we played some low organized games that got everyone's hearts pumping.  First we played a running game called Indy 500, which is one of my favourites. And on Friday we played some simple but fun games called Ambush and Jellyfish Tag. On Wednesday we had Tropical Vacation day here at MTS, so we did some "beach" stations in the gym.  These included beach ball volleyball, noodle "surfing" and limbo.  Wow, I was super impressed with some students' flexibility during limbo!  There is NO way I could bend over backwards as far as some students! It was a great day.
This week students competed in a variety of wrestling warm-up games.  One of our focuses was on showing good sportsmanship win or lose.  Students independently said "good game" after each match to demonstrate respect and sportsmanship.   Some of our wrestling warm-up games included thumb wrestling, arm wrestling, front support knockdown, and hand tappers.  These wrestling warm-up games develop quickness, strength and balance.
Welcome back!  We started 2025 of with some important learning.  On our first day we reviewed the rules and routines of the gym.  After 2 weeks away it is important to review the routines, so that everyone knows exactly what to expect when they come into the gymnasium.   Later in the week students completed some exercise stations.  We discussed the changes that happen to our body when we are active i.e. our bodies get warmer, we sweat, our hearts beat faster, etc.  We also discussed the long term effects of being regularly active. We also played a cooperative game called Cross the River.  The big focus was on being a good teammate. We discussed ways to be a good teammate like staying calm, being kind, and not blaming teammates.
