PE News from Outdoors!

Hello families! This week in PE, we took advantage of the beautiful fall weather and held our classes outside! It was a great week full of fun, movement, and skill-building. Skill Focus: Overhand Throwing All K–4 students worked on developing their overhand throwing skills. We broke the skill down into easy-to-remember steps: Stand sideways to your target. Ball by your ear, elbow up – like you're getting ready to launch! Step forward and throw with control and power. Students practiced throwing with partners using soft balls and focused on improving both accuracy and technique. Grades 3 & 4: Football Fun! Our Grade 3 and 4 students took their overhand throwing skills to the next level by practicing with footballs. We worked on proper grip and throwing technique, then had fun applying what we learned in a game called Leapfrog Touchdowns – a favourite among students that combines teamwork, movement, and plenty of laughter! 3 Left Feet Dance Residency – A H...

PE Outside This Week

PE Outside This Week This week in PE, we’ve been enjoying the fresh air outside while the Three Left Feet dance company runs a two-week residency for our K–2 students in the gym. With our classes moving outdoors, it was the perfect opportunity to revisit some classic recess games. Students had fun learning and practicing games like hopscotch and 4 square, which not only build coordination and agility but also help promote teamwork and friendly competition. It’s been great to see students smiling, staying active, and adding new options to their recess playtime! A reminder that mornings can still be quite cool, so please ensure students come dressed appropriately for the weather so they can stay comfortable while being active outside.

Terry Fox Run Success!

Terry Fox Run Success! On Friday, September 12th, our school came together for the annual Terry Fox Run. It was truly inspiring to see students running hard, encouraging one another, and making meaningful connections with Terry Fox’s incredible legacy. We are thrilled to share that our fundraising goal of $1150 was not only reached but surpassed — our students, families, and community helped raise an amazing $1725 ! This generosity and spirit of determination reflect the very qualities Terry embodied. We will celebrate meeting our goal with a theme day this Friday.  It is "wear your favourite sports team gear" day. Thank you to everyone who contributed and supported this event. Our students should feel very proud of their efforts, both on the track and through their fundraising. Together, we continue to keep Terry’s dream alive. - Mr. V

Welcome Back

Welcome back everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful summer full of play, rest, and adventure. It’s been great to see the students settling back into routines this week. In PE, we focused on reviewing the rules and expectations of the gym so that everyone feels safe and ready to learn. Next week, we’ll shift into some fun running games to help prepare for our school’s Terry Fox Run on Friday, September 12th at 9:00 am . Students are encouraged to bring in Toonies for Terry to support cancer research. If we reach our fundraising goal of $1150 , we’ll celebrate the following week with a special “Wear Your Favourite Sports Swag” day! I’m excited for a great year ahead—thank you for your continued support in helping our students stay active and healthy. -Mr. van Sluys
