PE News from Outdoors!
Hello families!
This week in PE, we took advantage of the beautiful fall weather and held our classes outside! It was a great week full of fun, movement, and skill-building.
Skill Focus: Overhand Throwing
All K–4 students worked on developing their overhand throwing skills. We broke the skill down into easy-to-remember steps:
-
Stand sideways to your target.
-
Ball by your ear, elbow up – like you're getting ready to launch!
-
Step forward and throw with control and power.
Students practiced throwing with partners using soft balls and focused on improving both accuracy and technique.
Grades 3 & 4: Football Fun!
Our Grade 3 and 4 students took their overhand throwing skills to the next level by practicing with footballs. We worked on proper grip and throwing technique, then had fun applying what we learned in a game called Leapfrog Touchdowns – a favourite among students that combines teamwork, movement, and plenty of laughter!
3 Left Feet Dance Residency – A Huge Success!
We also wrapped up our 3 Left Feet Dance Residency this week, and what a great experience it was! Students had the chance to explore creative movement, rhythm, and expression through dance. On Thursday, they showcased their learning with performances that were full of energy, confidence, and joy. Thank you to everyone who supported this experience – our dancers were fantastic!
Coming Up: Inline Skating in the Gym!
We're excited to let you know that Alien Inline Skating will be starting a residency in our gymnasium for Grades 3, 4 and EES students starting Wednesday, October 1st. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to build confidence, coordination, and have a ton of fun while learning to inline skate.
A few important notes for skating days:
-
Students are encouraged to bring a CSA-approved helmet (bike helmets are best). I will post the schedule so you know what days to bring in helmets.
-
Please do not send full-face helmets, football helmets, or hockey helmets.
-
If your child does not have a helmet, one will be provided for them.
Since the gym will be used for skating, all PE classes will continue to be held outdoors next week, weather permitting. Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather and ready to move!
