We completed our Combatives unit this week. Some new combatives we tried were: the bean bag pull, and ball wrestling. At the end of the week students got a chance to try all of the combatives we've learned during some stations. I was proud of the sportsmanship showed by MTS students this past week. They did a good job of shaking hands and saying "good match" after each activity.

We started a unique unit this week I call "combatives," where students compete in a variety of wrestling warm-up drills and activities. We started with a discussion about what "combat" sports are: they involve getting points by landing strikes, a knockdown, or pinning someone. These include Karate, Tae-kwon-do, sumo wrestling, boxing, fencing, etc. Many students shared that they already practice some sort of "combat" sport outside of school. We then talked about how students need to ensure that they are doing these activities safely, and to demonstrate good sportsmanship at the end of each match by shaking hands and saying "good game." Some of the different combatives we tried were thumb wrestling, arm wrestling, the front support knockdown, and the single leg pull. It was lots of fun watching students compete safely, and I was especially proud of everyone's sportsmanship. Make sure to ask your child/children about their favourite comba...

Happy New Year! It's good to be back teaching PE at MTS. We started the new year off with a game that focused on sportsmanship and teamwork. It was called Cross the River. Students had to work as a team to complete a number of levels (the levels got harder depending on grade level). We focused on what traits good teammates have: they are kind, they share, they do not boss others around, etc. It was fun to watch students work together!
