Last Blog of the Year! I had an amazing year teaching all of your children PE this year. I am so grateful to be a PE teacher here at MTS. We have amazing students, great teachers, and some of the best PE equipment and experiences in the city thanks to the support of school administration and School Council. I am just wrapping up Sports Day right now. It has been a great event. Thank you to all of the volunteers who have helped with the day. This week we finished up Track and Field here at MTS. Students finished by competing in the Frisbee Throw (our "throwing event because we have no shot-puts or javelins...) and the 4x200m relay. Both events were very exciting, especially the relays. I loved watching all students try their best in Track this year. Later in the week students played Bocce Ball. Then on the 21st, National Indigenous People's Day, students participated in a community walk/clean-up. It was nice to see students pitching in to care for our environment and community. Good work MTS!

Earlier this week I went out to the school field and painted a 200m track on the grass, or should I say dandelions... So, this week s tudents in grades 1-4 started Track and Field. We started on Tuesday by discussing some of the different types of track and field events, i.e. running, jumping, and throwing events. We will use the track/field for at least 5 different events. So far this week students competed in the long jump, the 400m (200m for grade 2 students), 50m sprints, and some have already completed our version of discus - the frisbee toss. It's been tonnes of fun watching students try their best at different events. I hope this inspires students to try out for the Track and Field team once they start middle school.

This week we finished Frisbee Golf, and started to focus on running games to get everyone ready for all the running in Track and Field, which we will likely start next week. It has been great to see all of the students walking or riding to school on Thursdays (and other days of the week). Every Thursday is a Walk or Ride day, and we are encouraging all students to get to school in an active way. We are doing this because it is: good for the environment, good for our bodies, and it's fun!
