This week in PE, we kicked off our lacrosse unit with all K–4 classes! Even though it was a short week, we packed in lots of learning and introduced students to the fundamentals of this exciting sport.
Our main focus was on three key skills: grip, scooping, and catching. Students learned how to hold the lacrosse stick correctly, keeping their hands spaced and positioned for control and safety. Then we practiced scooping ground balls using low knees, two hands on the stick, and a smooth upward motion. Afterwards, students tried catching tennis balls and worked on a few tricks.
The students showed awesome effort and picked up the basics quickly. It was great to see so many trying something new with confidence and enthusiasm!
Next week, we’ll build on these skills with cradling, passing, and simple game play. Feel free to ask your child to demonstrate how to scoop—they love showing off their skills!
