This week in PE was a full and exciting one.

We wrapped up our Jump Rope for Heart campaign, and I am thrilled to share that we raised over $10,000. That is an incredible accomplishment. I am so proud of our students and families for their generosity and enthusiasm. Beyond the fundraising success, the students worked hard on their skipping skills and learned more about how to keep their hearts healthy. It was a great way to combine physical activity with an important cause.  We culminated Jump Rope for Heart with an assembly on Tuesday, where The Heart and Stroke Foundation presented an award to one of our former students, Max.  8 years ago, Max saved his father's life by recognizing the signs of stroke and quickly calling 911.

I also had the opportunity to attend the Be Brave Hitmen Game, hosted by the Calgary Hitmen. It was a meaningful event and a great experience connecting sport, courage, and community. Events like this provide powerful real world examples of teamwork, resilience, and leadership, all of which connect directly to what we talk about in PE.

On Thursday, we began our gymnastics unit. We started by learning our official gymnastics warm up, which includes 10 different “animal travels.” The students did a great job practicing movements safely and with control.

As we move forward with gymnastics, please remember a few important clothing reminders:

  • Students must wear socks.

  • Shirts need to be long enough to tuck in so they do not fall over students’ heads when they are upside down.

  • Dresses are discouraged unless they can be tucked securely into tights.

We are off to a strong start, and I am looking forward to seeing the progress students make as we dive deeper into our gymnastics skills next week.
